According to Weichai's power engineers, Weichai Power is currently developing in-cylinder direct injection technology for the Lanqing WP10NG and WP12NG series of gas engine products. In-cylinder direct injection technology is currently one of the most advanced automotive power technologies in the world. In order to successfully implement this technology, as early as the end of 2007, Weichai Power and a Canadian Westport Innovation Corporation formed a joint venture to establish Weichai Power Westport New Energy Engine Co., Ltd. The company is committed to the research, development and promotion of high-performance gas-fueled engines to promote the production process of Weichai's green and environmentally friendly engines and realize the higher social value of Weichai's power. In-cylinder direct injection technology can effectively reduce the emission of harmful substances such as nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide and particulates while maintaining the engine's high performance.

The series of gas engines such as Weichai Lanqing WP10NG and WP12NG are based on the mature WP10 and WP12 diesel engines.
