In March 2008, the pilot work of auto parts remanufacturing in China was officially launched. As one of the 14 pilot enterprises of the National Development and Reform Commission, Weichai started "engine remanufacturing".

According to statistics, for every 10,000 remanufactured engines produced, nearly 360 million yuan of added value is recovered, 14.5 million KWH of electricity can be saved, and 600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced. Compared with remanufacturing new products, remanufacturing can save 60% energy and reduce emissions of air pollutants by 70%, which is a typical circular economy model.
"The remanufacturing of the engine is to make good use of the parts of the old machine, at the same time, the failed parts are reworked or replaced, and finally re-assembled. According to Li Yongtao, head of the trial assembly workshop of the remanufacturing company of Weichai Group, the engine remanufacturing industry has developed rapidly in recent years. "From the beginning of the month to dozens of units, now the monthly output of hundreds of units. It still doesn't meet market demand. The main reason is that the quality of the remanufactured engine is not bad, the price is relatively low, the price is higher than the new engine, and the supply naturally exceeds the demand."
How to "refresh" an engine? It is reported that engine reengineering is a green manufacturing technology. It mainly uses nanosurface engineering technology to restore the performance of used products, that is, the special properties of nanomaterials are used to change and strengthen the surface morphology, composition and structure of worn and corroded parts. Make its quality and performance equal to or exceed the new product. It is understood that the engine remanufacturing technology of Weichai Group has reached the international advanced level in cooperation with SRC Company of the United States.
The reporter saw the whole process of engine remanufacturing on the production line: the old engine recycling into the factory, first into a single piece; Then all parts are disassembled, measured, cleaned and tested, and the faulty parts are reprocessed or replaced. The final reassembly will bring the obsolete engine back up to the quality standard of the new product.
At present, the market capacity of Weichai engine has exceeded 3 million units, and the development is accelerating at the rate of more than 600,000 units per year. Facing the broad prospect of the remanufacturing market, Weichai Group proposed to develop the remanufacturing industry as a breakthrough, promote energy conservation and emission reduction, cultivate new growth points, and make the remanufacturing sector cover vehicle engines, construction machinery, ships and power generation applications.
